Canning Jar

Canning Jar

I have been using this jar to store small items without a home. Previous studio play with old forgotten tubes of paint and color mixing gave me a new palette to capture the beautiful colors of the glass and its surrounding warm light.

Open Me First!

Open Me First!

A few years ago some good friends surprised me with the gift of a Tiffany bracelet. I proudly wear the bracelet, but also saved the box and bag (they're almost as much fun to look at.) They became my paint subjects today.

Blue Teapot

Blue Teapot

This teapot is the star of a still life I painted years ago in the Flemish method using layers and glazes. This time the brushes were flying and I painted thicker and bolder than before.

Colander

Colander

I was a bit intimidated by the intricate star pattern around the bowl of this colander. I put on some good music and jumped into the painting process.

Afraid of His Own Shadow

Afraid of His Own Shadow

I chose an old studio friend to pose for me today.
A bit stiff, but he held his pose.

Take Out

Take Out

I have always loved the the perfectly folded crisp edges of a Chinese take out container, and the ingenious way they are put together. Its timeless design is perfect! The materials might have changed over the years, but the shape remains unchanged from when I was a little girl. I placed the container center stage with a strong light on the left creating nice cast shadows to show off the beauty and geometry of this simple object.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

This Raggedy Ann was my mother's beloved doll. After being hidden away for many years in a box of my mother's things, she now sits in a place of honor on a shelf in my studio. She was the perfect model for this painting, hardly even moved, and she was so patient while I scrutinized her form, compared values, mixed colors, and applied paint to canvas.
