Sailboat on Superior
Oil, Plein Air, 14 x 11 inches
This was painted during the Grand Marais (Minnesota) Art Colony Plein
Air event in September - the skies changed so rapidly it was hard to
keep up with their movement! I was drawn to the way the warm light played on
the boat, the flag, the buoys, and the dinghy, in contrast to the cold
choppy water slapping all around. I hoped that the moored boat would be a
captive model for me during my painting session. The stationary
lighthouse stands guard in the background.
