Here's a peek at how I spend some of my time

My students work so hard I thought I should share some of their artwork:

Here is one of my art classes - lots of windows and beautiful north light!

Barb - Drawing from life

Judy's oil painting - This is a painting of the home she and her husband lived in when they were first married. Notice the photo setup at the side, and the model car posed in front of the photo. The car is a replica of the car they owned when their first child was born.

Tom - Drawing. He is very serious about his artwork.

Mara and her oil painting from life, in the Flemish method. Notice the original drawing on the floor, and the setup. This was painted in natural north light.

And some of their finished artwork:

Dave's oil painting - Can you hear the roar of the rushing river?

Gwen's Oil, Flemish method - Wine & Chocolate. Yummy!

Gwen's Campfire - oil - Feel the warmth!

Judy's Teapot - Oil, Flemish method. Judy hosts a holiday tea party each year with the women and girls in her family. She painted this one for her granddaughter.

Mara's oil - Boundary Waters Canoes
** This painting received a prestigious award from Congressman John Kline, and is now hanging in his office in Washington DC! I am very proud of Mara! **

Mara's pastel - Cat - look closely and notice the beautiful colors in the shadow areas.

Scott's oil -  He is working on loosening up in his brushwork and this is a really nice painting. Nice composition, nice colors, and very painterly.

Scott's pastel - He painted a series of the exact same scene, using different color palettes in each one.

Shirley's pastel - Self Portrait - Shirley has a vibrant spirit and her use of bright colors in this painting reflect her personality.

It's a Beautiful Day

As the seasons change in our part of the country and summer turns into fall, the opportunity for a comfortable (meaning no thermal layers) outdoor painting session presents itself less frequently. The days were spectacular with the most magnificent display of autumn colors changing daily. It was the perfect time to grab my paintbox! I headed to Lake Harriet for yet another attempt at painting the sailboats. The water changed constantly and the boats moved like distracted children in the chilly lake breeze. Invigorating, challenging, and most satisfying.
